Unaccompanied Sacred, Classical and Tsarist
music sung in the Polyphonic Russian tradition

The Konevets Vocal Quartet was founded in 1992 by graduates of the St. Petersburg Music Conservatory, the Quartet takes its name from the Island and Monastery of Konevets near St. Petersburg. They specialise in unaccompanied music sung in the polyphonic Russian tradition Their repertoire has been especially created for this purpose and ranges from the Orthodox liturgy, through classical works by Tchaikovsky, Borodin and others with lyrics by Pushkin and Lermontov to Tsarist regimental songs and marches banned during the Communist times. They have toured widely through the USA, Europe and the UK. This is their London recital debut.

“…at first pure silence. Miracle: sound of equal purity The small group of young singers from St. Petersburg lead us into a space where sound and silence unite…”
Peter Brook Director of Les Bouffes du Nord, Paris LE FIGARO
