RUSSIAN REVIVAL AT CHRISTMAS TIME
An appreciation of the Russian spirit in music and literature.
Wigmore Hall, London. Sunday December 19th at 5.00pm
In support of new mental health initiatives in Moscow and St Petersburg.
Social upheaval in Russia has brought a growing toll of emotional disturbance and trauma for children and adults alike. Psychological treatments, banned for 50 years in Soviet times, are slowly being re-restablished to meet a huge need. The Russian Revival Project, supported by the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP), sends senior Jungian analysts from London to train psychotherapists in St Petersburg and Moscow, and the first five graduates have just been accepted into full membership of the IAAP. But more money is urgently needed to train others and so develop a local training and make psychotherapy more widely available.
All proceeds from the concert will go towards this aim. It offers a rich mix of music by Russian composers, and performances by distinguished singers (Matthew Beale, Susan Bullock, Rebecca Evans, Matthew Rose, The Elysian Singers) instrumentalists (Sasha Grynyuk, Valeriy Sokolov) and actors Simon Russell Beale and Kate Duchene, who will read from Russian literature. The concert host is Iain Burnside, pianist and broadcaster.
