SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No 15
RACHMANINOV The Bells

Jukka-Pekka Saraste conductor

BBC Symphony Chorus

A concert featuring two large-scale works, Shostakovich's final symphony
and Rachmaninov's The Bells, based on the poem by Edgar Allan Poe, for
which the BBC SO is joined by the BBC Symphony Chorus. The Bells, a
favourite of Rachmaninov himself, depicts a journey through life marked
out by bells, from sleigh bells to wedding bells and, ultimately, to the
hollow tolling of the death-knell.
