Memoirs of Grand Duke Gavriil Constantinovich (grandson of Czar Alexander III)
We have kept in touch with the excellent guide we had in St.Petersburg several years ago. Although we cannot vouch for the information, we understand that a Russian resident in Canada was keen that these memoirs should be translated into English.
We have the impression that our guide was persuaded by an old university friend to do this. We think the Canadian paid her something but probably not enough to cover all the work she has put in. She is naturally very keen that her translation work should not be wasted and has asked us to find out whether anyone in England could take the matter further.
The English translation needs considerable amount of polishing but it is very intelligible. There are a few amusing mistranslations such as "corps" translated as "corpses"!!
Is there anyone who is interested in this unpublished translation? At the very least we would like to find a library accessible to specialists in Romonov history. We have the original Russian book which was published by the Chekhov Press ISBN 5-8159-0130-X and also the translation disc with four copies of the print out. We would ofcourse need to get permission from the translator for any arrangement.
