Some time ago I introduced the idea of English/Ukrainian Youth Exchange project in UK. Last year, as you know from my article published in the summer issue of East –West Review I successfully completed the Artek Youth Exchange project. 12 artistically and musically gifted English children went to Ukraine to participate in the International Children Festival in ARTEC, International Children Centre in Crimea, Ukraine for the first time in UK history and it was a great success. This year 15 children from different schools represented England at the festival with 25 other countries participating in it.
As a part of the exchange programme a group of musically gifted Ukrainian children will arrive in the UK and will stay in West Sussex from 30 September till 7 October. They are coming to introduce Ukrainian culture as well as to help the Chernobyl children perform in fund raising concerts.
They will be received by the Duchess of Norfolk on the 6th of October in Arundel Castle.
She has shown great interest in the activities of CRF.
I am looking for the opportunity to introduce this group to as many aspects of English life as possible. I would be grateful if you help me with ideas as to who might be interested in having them give a concert. They are singers, musicians, dancers. They would be happy to perform and introduce Ukrainian and classical music to you. The concert might be 30-40 minutes or more.
Could any of the members of the society suggest who I should approach? It would be an unforgettable opportunity to demonstrate that in spite of many frustrations Ukrainian children live life and even think about those who are less lucky such as the children from Chernobyl.
We will have with the group of 10 children aged 13-15 , the Minister of Education from Ukraine and the Director of the Artek Festival as the leaders of the group who made the Artek Festival happen and referred by UNESCO as the best Youth Project in the World. The embassy and the Cultural Attaché of the Ukrainian Embassy in London are supporting this project.
I am looking to hearing from you as soon as possible if there is any interest. I am sorry for such short notice but I received confirmation of their arrival only yesterday when they found the sponsors for the air tickets.
