If any member is interested in assisting with the proposed tour below please contact
Anastasia Goryanina e-mail [removed], I am a manager of the Russian Ensemble of Valaam Monastery Singers.
In May 2006 we are planning a tour to the UK and are looking for the venues.
I am writing to ask for assistance in getting the contacts of those who might be interested in hosting the ensemble for a concert in England and Scotland.
Any information and help will be highly appreciated!
The concert usually consists of two parts: sacred and Russian folk songs.
Here is a little background about the ensemble:The ensemble was founded in 1993 by 5 professional singers. The concerts only feature the singers, there is no musical backing. The repertoire consists of liturgical singing – hundreds of Kievan chants as well as Russian polyphonic of the 17th – 18th century, masterpieces of Greek, Serbian, Georgian church music, the best sacred creations of S. Degtyarev, D. Bortnynskoi, A. Nicolskii, A. Grechanunov, N. Kedrova-son, S. Trubachev, K. Nikitin – and many Russian folk songs. The main task is to research, perform and preserve the rich musical heritage of the North of Russia. The ensemble has produced several CDs and had some successful tours both Russian and foreign: Finland, Canada, Australia, USA, UK (2001, 2002, 2005)
