Channel 4 have re-licensed some of the Norstein films and are showing them over Christmas. But NB in the case of The Heron and the Crane, Hedgehog in the Fog and The Fox and the Hare they have taken the English versions only. This is less than ideal, and in the case of The Fox and the Hare it's pretty disastrous. A lot nicer for children though.
And they're at exceedingly anti-social hours:
24 December 5.30 am (yes, am) Hedgehog in the Fog
25 December 5.20 am The Heron and the Crane
31 December 6.00 am The Heron and the Crane
31 December 6.10 am The Fox and the Hare (I think they're calling it The Vixen and the Hare)
31 December 6.25 am Tale of Tales
31 December 6.50 am The Hedgehog in the Fog
Quite honestly, the DVD is a rather better bet, as it has the subtitled versions and that is available from [removed].
But you can see Tale of Tales in far better conditions, in a 35 mm print, on 19 January at 6 pm at the Curzon Soho, followed by A S Byatt and me talking about it.
(At that event, incidentally, I'll be selling the DVD as well as my book, and at a reduced price.)
I'll send another email about that later.
All the best and enjoy a good Christmas break.
