30th January 2006

Dear all,
the Shostakovich cycle is being performed at the Barbican.

Anna

Great Performers 2005-2006
Valery Gergiev
The complete Shostakovich cycle continues
No composer has traced a story of a city – personal, political, psychological – so acutely as the radical young Shostakovich did for Leningrad under Stalin. Gergiev creates a sense of space and atmosphere and colour that digs deep into the subtext of music. The Shostakovich cycle, representing a lifetime of creativity and experience, promises to be the highlight of the season.
