Norstein

5th February 2006

The last screening at the Curzon Soho was sold out and they had to turn people away, and the film went down so well that they've decided to repeat it, on 25th of this month.

Not with A S Byatt this time, but with two other Norstein films.

I attach more information, in case your members would be interested.

TALE OF TALES: repeat screening (12A)

Due to popular demand after a sold out screening in January we will repeat the screening of Yuri Norstein’s acclaimed animation TALE OF TALES, which has twice been voted the best animated film of all time.

In addition we will screen THE HERON AND THE CRANE, which helped the director to receive his deserved recognition within the Russian establishment, and HEDGEHOG IN THE FOG, a film much admired by Johnny Vaughan (who once, on Channel 4, nominated it his all-time favourite animated film) and Michel Gondry (who conceived one of his Björk videos as a tribute to that same film).

THE HERON AND THE CRANE (Tsaplya i zhuravl)
USSR 1974. 10mins.
HEDGEHOG IN THE FOG (Yozhik v tumane)
USSR 1975. 1975. 10mins.
TALE OF TALES (Skazka skazok)
USSR 1979. 29mins.

Total duration: 50mins.
