Chechen Children's Dance Performing at the Riverside Studios
Wednesday 28th June!

Chechnya is perhaps the world`s most hidden tragedy – between ten and
twenty per cent of the population have been killed in the past ten years,
something like 150,000 people, including an estimated 25,000 children.
Grozny, the capital city, resembles Dresden after the war, flattened and
devastated. The conditions in which people live, especially children who
have known only war , can barely be imagined. In the middle of all this, a
remarkable man has created something wonderful – Ramzan Akhmadov has built
a world-class childrens' Dance Company. Despite the difficulties of
working in a war zone, Ramzan has given these children an extraordinary
sense of pride and hope. On Wednesday 28th June, a group of us is
sponsoring his Company for a performance at the Riverside Theatre and
would love you to come. Tickets are 40 pounds each. The performance will
start at 7pm and be over before 9 pm. Needless to say, it is also
something children will love.
Do please open the attachment, call the box office and book tickets. If
you cannot come but would like to send a donation, please make cheques
payable to CPCD [registered charity number 1105864] and send to Louis
Greig at 36 Holland Park, London W11 3TA. The cause is to support Little
Star, a programme that employs 60 counsellors to provide much-needed
psychological and social support for children in Grozny. A RECENT STUDY BY
MEDICINS SANS FRONTIERES CONCLUDED THAT 90% OF ALL CHECHEN CHILDREN HAVE
EXPERIENCED SEVERE PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA AS A RESULT OF THE WAR.

Much hoping to see you,
Anastasia
