Dear friends
Amnesty International (UK) Media Awards are due to be presented in London
on 26th June.
Hotly tipped to win the "Journalists at Risk" category are Stanislav
Dmitrievsky and Oksana Chelysheva who are leading members of the Russian
Chechen Friendship Society.
This organisation has promoted peaceful solutions to the conflict and
provided medical aid and welfare for the civilian casualties of the
conflict with a special emphasis on the care of children who have been
traumatised,tortured, orphaned etc.
However, the members of the organisation have received death threats and
also been persecuted by the organisations of the Russian state, especially
since the recent crackdown on NGOs.
There will be a talk given by Stanislav and Oksana at 7.00 pm on 29th June
at Amnesty International's Human Rights Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn
Yard,London EC2A 3EA.
Both Amnesty International members and non-members are welcome.
Please RSVP by email to [removed] or telephone 020 7033 1572
Free admission; refreshments provided.
Please contact me if you need any more details.
Yours sincerely
