DEREK OFFORD will talk on the subject of his book Journeys to a
Graveyard.
Perceptions of Europe in Classical Russian Travel Writing. Dordrecht:
Kluwer/Springer, 2005.
The travellers discussed are Piotr Tolstoi, Fonvizin, Karamzin, Pogodin,
Botkin,
Herzen, Dostoevsky, Saltykov-Schedrin. Professor Offord is in the
Russian
Department at Bristol.

Julian Gallant, the director of Pushkin House, will take you round this
splendid
building before the talk. Pushkin House is a listed Grade 2* building
which
dates back to the 18th century and was the birthplace and home of the
young
Disraeli. It is conveniently situated close to the British Museum and the
University of London, with easy access to Holborn, Russell Square and
Tottenham
Court Road Underground Stations, and many buses.
