A Russian violinist, Boris Brovtsyn is giving a recital (admission free)
on the 1st November 2006 at 18.00 in the Music Hall at the Guildhall
School of Music & Drama (Silk Street, Barbican, EC2Y 8DT). The programme
is to include Three Sonatas for violin and piano and Fantasy by
R.Schumann. This recital is recorded for a Performance Channel and will be
shown later on this year.

Boris was born in Moscow and began studying the violin with his
grandfather at age four. After graduating from Moscow's Central Music
School in 1994, he entered the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory where he
studied with Maya Glezarova, winning prizes at several international
competitions before graduating in 1999. In 2001, he won the Reuters Prize,
followed by the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition (2002). He
continued his studies with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music
and Drama where he won the Gold Medal in 2004. As a soloist, Boris has
worked with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de Lille, the BBC
Philharmonic and the Moscow Soloists and at festivals including Verbier
and Edinburgh. In 2007, he will be the soloist on a European tour with the
Moscow State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mark Gorenstein. Boris plays
a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin dated 1862 which has been in his family
since 1930.

Boris will be accompanied by a Russian pianist Ekaterina Apekisheva.
