Dear Ute,
A very brief announcement about two important events taking place
imminently at Pushkin House
Please note that the Red Star Gallery is opening its exhibition Russia at
War on Monday 26 March. The exhibition focuses on military and political
figures, predominantly from the Great Patriotic War and Cold War periods.
Works on display include portraits by Josef Ilyin, among them a haunting
sketch of a landmine victim, oil paintings from the front line provided by
Bantikov and Baranovsky and a Vasiliev painting of Lenin in Gorkiy. Most
or all of the artists belonged to active service units during the Great
Patriotic War. The Red Star Gallery opened in London in 2003 and
specialises in the exhibition and sale of fine art from Russia. Tickets to
the exhibition £3 (£2 for Friends of Pushkin House) Complimentary
refreshments for visitors between 6pm and 7pm Monday to Friday
I’d also like to draw your attention to a new genre at Pushkin House –
CHESS. The Shakmaty Club holds its first evening on Tuesday 3 April; there
will be a lively atmosphere and scope (and rewards) for players of all
levels.
We will shortly forward you an outline of all events taking place at
Pushkin House up to the end of June 2007.
For further information, please call 020 7269 9770.
With best wishes,
Jenny Levitan
