Richard Pipes lecture on October 16th

5th October 2007

FROM THE CHAIRMAN
To all members coming to the talk by Professor Richard Pipes on October
16th.
The talk will take place at 15 Belgrave Square. Above the front door it
says 'The Society for the Chemical Industry'.The Great Britain – China
Centre is a tenant in this building, and it is through their good offices
that we have been permitted to hire this venue for our very special
evening.

The nearest tube station is Hyde Park Corner (Piccadilly line). There are
plenty of car parking metered spaces in Belgrave Square.

Please note that the wine reception will now begin at the slightly earlier
time of 5.45 p.m.thus giving us up to half an hour for the reception in
the very pleasant buttery with adjoining conservatory. From 5.55 p.m.
until 6.15 p.m. a selection of Russian, British and American military
marches will be played on CD in the lecture theatre – to lift our
spirits!

However do not take any wine glasses from the buttery/conservatory into
the lecture theatre.

The talk will begin at 6.15 p.m.

At 7.45 p.m. after the talk and the question and answer session we shall
be selling the two latest books by Professor R. Pipes.

We shall be virtually 'giving away' his magnificent autobiography at £8
(normally £10.50) and we shall be selling 'Russian Conservatism & Its
Critics' for £9 (normally £12.99). Moreover, if you buy both copies
together we shall sell the 2 books for £16 (instead of £17). Please bring
the exact cash.
We can take cheques made payable to The Great Britain-Russia Society, but
we have no facility for accepting credit cards. We are aiming to sell 80
books (40 copies of each book) in just 20 minutes!

I can assure all members that both books (and I reviewed them both) are
truly remarkable in every way. Do not miss this opportunity to acquire 2
masterpieces at hugely attractive prices.

Our Patron HRH Prince Michael of Kent is hoping to attend, as are many of
Britain's most distinguished academics. Baroness Thatcher has requested a
transcript of the talk.

We are virtually sold out for this historic event.

Yours sincerely

Daniel Salbstein
