Grygoriy Shyshko Soviet Impressionists
The UN launched an exhibition of Shyshkos landscapes this week. The
show comes to the Chambers Gallery on 14 November. Shyshko is a classic
example of how an independent artist negotiated a path through Soviet
Realism, benefiting from the meticulous figuration and rigour of the
training it imposed, but breaking free to use simplified forms, pictorial
flatness and colourist distortions that owe a clear debt to modernism.

2) Russian Charity Gala
Friday 23 November 2007 6pm
Please join us for an evening of Russian art and music from the
1930s-1960s in aid of the Russian charitable foundation Humanitarian
Programmes Support (Patron Dame Helen Mirren). Co-hosted by their British
partners Home Farm Trust (www.hft.org.uk) and specialists in twentieth
century Russian art East Hill Gallery (www.easthillgallery.com), the
will begin with a short presentation of Humanitarian Programmes Supports
work with disabled children and their families in Moscow, and end with an
auction of Russian paintings by both highly collectable and lesser-known
artists. In between, there will be time to eat, drink and be merry to the
sounds of Russian balladeers of the period.
More than sixty paintings can be previewed on Thursday 22nd November from
10am until 6pm, and on Friday until 2pm. No paintings will be sold before
the doors open at 6pm on Friday 23rd November, and selected painting will
