The BEARR Trust has pleasure in inviting you to its 2010 Annual Lecture

�Russia and Islam�
by Professor Anatol Lieven

The lecture will be held at the European Bank for Reconstruction and
Development (EBRD), One Exchange Square, London EC2A 2JN at 6pm on 24 May

Anatol Lieven is a Professor in the War Studies Department at King's
College London and a former journalist. He worked in the former Soviet
Union and Russia from 1990 to 1996 as a correspondent for The Times and
has written several books on the region. He is currently completing a
on Pakistan, where he also previously worked as a journalist. His lecture
will focus on the position of Islam and the Muslim minorities in Russia,
and Russia's relations with the Muslim world.

The President of the EBRD, Thomas Mirow, will welcome the guests. Prof
Geoffrey Hosking, Patron of BEARR, will introduce the speaker.

The lecture will be followed by a reception, which will allow for further
discussion and networking with others with an interest in the field.

The BEARR Trust is an NGO dedicated to working with Russian (and other
FSU) and British NGOs to help develop the third sector in the region,
especially in the field of health and social welfare, and thus promote the
establishment of democratic and stable societies. The EBRD works to build
democracy and to bring sustainable prosperity to peoples and countries
from Central Europe to Central Asia.

The lecture is free, and all are welcome. However, this is The BEARR
Trust�s main fund-raising event of the year, and guests are invited to
make an advance donation of �20 per person. All proceeds will go towards
BEARR�s work to support health and welfare and to strengthen civil

All names must be given in advance, for security reasons, so please fill
in the enclosed form and return it to Ann Lewis. Please note that you
should arrive in good time, using the One Exchange Square entrance only,
to allow for security procedures. No
tickets will be issued, but you may assume that if you have sent in your
form, places have been reserved for you and your guests.

We look forward to seeing you on 24 May for what is sure to be an
enjoyable and stimulating evening.
