Dear Members, Guests and Friends,
I'm sorry to have to announce that the talk planned for this coming
Wednesday, 9th February, 'The Russian Imperial Award System' will have to
take place at a later date. Dr Ulla Tillander-Godenhielm's husband has
fallen gravely ill and she cannot leave him to come from Helsinki to
address us. I am sure that you will all join with me in expressing every
good wish at this terribly difficult time.
I hope you will be happy for me to stand in with an illustrated
presentation from my own recent research on the eighteenth-century French
philosopher Baron d'Holbach: his work was translated into Russian and used
by the Soviet regime in the anti-religious campaigns of the 1920s-30s and
again in the 1960s.
Anybody having booked for Dr Tillander-Godenhielm's talk who no longer
wishes to attend on Wednesday will be credited with their fee or can claim
Hoping to see you on Wednesday at 6.30 for 7 pm as usual at Pushkin
Dr David Holohan.
