Dr James Muckle's Talk and Book

5th June 2011

Dear Members and Friends,

This is just to remind you that our next talk of the session will be Dr
James Muckle, speaking on the fascinating subject of the history of
Britons learning Russian. This is a subject that he has researched and
written about for many, many years and his knowledge of it is second to
none! Come and join us on Monday, 6 June at Pushkin House at 6.30 for 7
pm for this fascinating, illustrated talk.

At his talk, James's book, 'The Russian Language in Britain: A Historical
Survey of Learners and Teachers' (Bramcote Press, 2008), will be on sale
at the special price for members of £10 – list price £24.95 – which is a
saving of 60%. It's a beautifully produced book which Martin Dewhirst
reviewed in the East-West Review (Summer edition, 2009), where he
described it as a 'fascinating monograph, based on the experience,
insights and meticulous research of a person who has devoted most of his
adult life to improving and increasing the provision of Russian studies in
schools and universities across this country'. Please bring the correct
change if you can, and James will sign your copy.

Hope to see you on Monday,

Kindest regards,

David Holohan.
