Dear Members and Friends,
I'd like to remind you that we have a fascinating lecture tomorrow night
as part of our Autumn Programme of Guest Speakers. Professor Faith
Wigzell will speak on the unusual subject of Russian near-death
experiences. Throughout the Soviet regime, huge efforts were made to
inculcate a wholly materialist outlook in Soviet citizens, and all mention
of any life or existence beyond the present, whether it be religious or
deeply rooted in folklore, were derided and frowned upon at an official
level – yet belief in 'tot svet' – 'the other world' – has persisted.
Professor Wigzell will shed light on this aspect of popular belief in her
illustrated talk tomorrow. Do come and join us!
We gather at the usual time of 6.30 for a complimentary drink, and the
talk will start promptly at 7 pm in Pushkin House.
Hope to see you there!
