The articles for the new company are now ready for you to peruse. They
can be accessed via this link:
Hard copies will be available at Pushkin House at the meeting, Thursday, 3
November at 5.30, should you wish to refer to them. Alternatively, you
can print them out yourself. Getting these new articles ready has been a
huge and complicated task and the Committee would have liked to have got
these to you all much earlier, but due to circumstances beyond our control
there have been considerable delays. We hope that you will understand.
Also at this link is an agenda for the meeting, as already published in
the last issue of the journal, sent out in early August. Copies of the
financial statement, prepared by the treasurer, will also be available on
Our speaker was to be Peter Pomerantsev and he was to address us on his
experiences working in TV in Russia, but I'm afraid his work has detained
him in the US and he will not be able to fulfil the appointment. (His
talk will be rescheduled at a later date.) However, I have managed to
find a very worthy replacement for him: he is Mr Robert Wareing, who for
many years was MP for West Derby and he was a key figure in the
Parliamentary All-Party Committee for Russia. He travelled to Russia many
times during the Cold War and his insights are unique and riveting. His
talk will start at the usual time of 6.30 for 7 pm, after the business of
the AGM has been concluded. His talk is entitled "Russia during the Cold
War – An MP's Perspective".
I have a few copies of books left from previous talks and I shall bring
them along to the AGM, so if you're stuck for Christmas presents for
someone, this might be a good opportunity to pick up some new books at
very competative prices. All money generated from this sale will go to
the Society. Please bring cash ONLY!
Please make every effort to attend the AGM. Join us for a drink at 5.15,
and the meeting will start promptly at 5.30. Your opinions matter to us
and this is a chance for you to have your say.
Hope to see you all on 3 November.
Dr David Holohan, on behalf of the Committee.
