Dear Members and Friends,
I’ve arranged for copies of Prof. Marie Mendras’s book, ‘Russian Politics: The Paradox of a Weak State’ to be available for purchase and signing at her talk on Wednesday – the first talk in our Autumn Programme. The price of the hard-back book is £16 and the correct money would be most welcome. Please note, we cannot accept credit cards. I reviewed the book in the summer issue of the East-West Review.
The Committee has decided to extend the concessionary-fee period for the ‘Dickens and Russia’ Symposium on September 22: you can continue to book for £25, which includes coffees, teas, lunch and a wine reception with canapes at the end. The great, great grandson of Charles Dickens will also attend and hold a question and answer session. We have a line-up of international scholars and world experts on Dickens and Russia to entertain and enlighten you throughout the day, on what should be a very interesting and social occasion to mark the bi-centenary year of the birth of Charles Dickens. Please book soon to avoid disappointment because firm numbers have to be given to the hotel by 10 September 2012. For further details, please see www.dickensandrussia.org or book on our usual website or fill in the form sent out with the summer issue of the journal. Please don’t forget to let us know your diatary requirements – we can cater for everyone.
Hope to see you at both the above events and thank you for your continuing support.
