Vasilley Sigarev's play Ladybird

16th November 2012

Dear Members,

Please find below details of a new production of a play by the contemporary Russian taking place in London.

Best regards,

Andrew

Please note the new production the Russian play Ladybird in London This is great piece of modern Russian play writing. Three of Vasilley Sigarev’s plays have premiered at the Royal Court in London, with the Evening Standard awarding him the Wintour Award for Most Promising Playwright in 2002 for his play Plasticine. Ladybird, his third play, tells the story of a group of young people in a run-down, provincial Russian city in the 90’s, struggling to find purpose and identity in a world turned upside down after the collapse of Soviet Communism. Written by Russian enfant- terrible Vasily Sigarev, the play is tough, tender, funny, tragic, vibrant and virtuosic. It draws inspiration from some of the great works of Russian dramatic literature, and has been likened to contemporary, urban Chekhov for its depth, subtlety, humour and humanity.
