Houghton Hall

23rd May 2013

Dear Member, Many of you will be aware of the upcoming exhibition at Houghton Hall to showcase some 70 pictures from the Hermitage.  These pictures are of huge symbolic importance as they are part of the collection built up by Sir Robert Walpole, Britain’s first Prime Minister, and subsequently sold by his son, Horace Walpole, to Catherine the Great to pay off the debts of the estate. I am going to visit the exhibition shortly after it opens, but I thought if there was sufficient interest from members that I would see if I could get a reduced price for members or a guided tour.  Houghton House is near King’s Lynn, Norfolk and the entry is £18.00 for adults.  The exhibition runs from the 17th May to 29th September and for those who want to make their own arrangements it would be wise to book in advance. Full details are on the website www.houghtonrevisited.com

Do let Ute know if this of interest and will make enquies when I visit Houghton Hall in ten days time.

Kind regards,

Stuart Thom
