Dear Member,
Please note the details of an event by the City of London Sinfonia
Best regard,
Andrew
On Wednesday 23 October there will be a rare film screening of the silent movie, The New Babylon, accompanied by City of London Sinfonia performing Russian composer, Dmitri Shostakovich’s original film score. Set in the 1871 Paris Commune, the film tells the tale of the encounter and tragic fate of two lovers separated by the Commune barricades and explores the violence, revolution and class-conflict of the time. Biographically, Shostakovich is a fascinating subject, and his work takes on new significance when considered alongside his turbulent relationship with the government during his lifetime. He originally wrote this, his only silent film score, for a small screening in Moscow. Our hugely popular Closer concert series is designed to appeal to those who like their live music experiences to be intimate and informal and enjoy a glass of wine while listening. This should be a fantastic evening for all involved and previous events have been described by audience members as “the best classical club experience so far”. This event will take place in Village Underground, a railway coal storage unit that has been converted into an urban arts space. Wednesday 23rd October 2013 Shostakovich: The New Babylon 7.30 pm Village Underground, 54 Hollywell Lane, Shoreditch, EC2A 3PQ It would be wonderful to have you and your members in attendance at this event.
