Film: Alexander Nevsky Sergei Eisenstein’s film, made on the eve of World War II, tells the story of the Russian hero Alexander Nevsky who thwarted an attempted invasion of Novgorod by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century. USSR, 1938, 108 minutes, English sub-titles. Free admission.

Course: Russian Language for Post-Beginners A weekly Russian language course for post-beginners / lower intermediate level, focusing on topic-based oral practice with grammar revision. The course is taught by a highly experienced former lecturer in Russian at the University of Westminster. Term 1 runs from Thursday 8 October to Thursday 10 December. Fee: £25 per term (SCRSS members), £50 per term (non-members), payable in advance, no concessions.

Lecture: Cosmonauts: Birth of the Space Age To coincide with World Space Week, Doug Millard, Senior Curator, talks about the Science Museum’s major new exhibition on the Russian space programme, its historical, cultural and spiritual context, and some of the key exhibits. Course: 8th SCRSS Russian Language Seminar Advance notice that our popular two-day seminar returns in 2016. It offers an intensive lecture programme in Russian, taught by senior lecturers from St Petersburg. The seminar is aimed at teachers of Russian, translators and others with an advanced-level comprehension of spoken Russian and an interest in contemporary Russia.
