Translating Bulgakov: New Perspectives on a Russian Master

As part of the Free Word Centre’s Wanderlust series Alma Books has organised an event focused on the life and work of the Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov, featuring two translators, Hugh Aplin and Roger Cockrell, discussing Bulgakov’s work, and the context of repression and censorship in which he wrote. As well as a discussion of freedom of speech in the Soviet context, the two translators will discuss the challenges and joys of translating this iconic writer from Russian to English. This would appeal to anyone interested in Russian literature, Russian history or translation in general.
