On January 28-30 an international Medtner festival is taking place in London at the Royal College of Music, British Library and Pushkin House. The festival, which is dedicated to the music of the neglected Russian composer Nikolay Medtner (1880-1951), has been endorsed by leading artists of today including Nikolay Lugansky and Marc-André Hamelin. The music critic Martin Anderson noted – not without a trace of irony – that `the Medtnerfest is another manifestation of the composer´s glacier-slow move to centre-stage´. The festival includes performances by musicians from Holland, Kyrgyzstan, Montenegro, Poland, Russia, United Kingdom and USA as well as a study day for Medtner scholars. A detailed programme of events is attached. Come and discover Medtner, the composer whom Rachmaninov considered `the greatest of our time´!..
