Choral and Folk Music Traditions of Russia at St James Theatre, March 17th.
This evening is a two part celebration of Russian music. In the first half, the London Russian choir presents a wide range of music from Russia, including traditional lyric and epic songs, ritual calendar music for pagan holidays as well as much loved Art songs from the 18th and 19th centuries, including Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky. The second half features Polina Skovoroda as lead singer, with Merlin Shepherd on clarinet and Rohan Kriwaczek on bagpipes and guitar. They will be playing Russian folk song arrangements incorporating Klezmer, Turkish, Greek and Romanian influences into their joint style.
