Ozerov’s PORTRAITS WITHOUT FRAMES at Pushkin House on November 13
11th September 2018
Received from Robert Chandler
While compiling THE PENGUIN BOOK OF RUSSIAN POETRY, Boris Dralyuk, Irina Mashinski and I discovered three important poets I hadn’t known. One was Georgy Ivanov – the poems he wrote during his last year are among the finest short lyrics I know in any language. The second was Varlam Shalamov – I had known only his prose, but some of his poems are no less remarkable. And the third was Lev Ozerov. Like Georgy Ivanov, he achieved true greatness in his last collection, published only after his death. Very soon it will be available in English.
