A message from our Chairman:
It is with very great sadness that we learnt earlier today that our former Chairman and Talks Organiser, Daniel Salbstein, has passed away. Daniel had not been in the best of health recently, but this news is still a great shock to all of us.
On behalf of the Society I have expressed our heart-felt condolences to Daniel’s daughter, Miriam, and to the whole family and have also spoken to Miriam, who appreciates how deeply saddened Daniel’s many friends in the Society will be by this news.
We understand that the family are arranging for an obituary to appear in the Daily Telegraph later this week. The funeral will take place in Worthing next Monday, 24 August. Given current circumstances, it will be a small, mainly family event, but it should be possible for one or two members of the Society to attend if they would wish to.
Daniel was the life and soul of the Great Britain-Russia Society: without his passionate engagement, energy and enthusiasm, the Society would not be what it is today. And he was greatly loved and admired by all who knew him. We will obviously wish to ensure that his towering contribution is recognised in a fitting manner. A suitable tribute is in the course of preparation.
